 I had no difficulty following your notation but do not understand your intent by including digit "8". Why not just
 
 9r4c8=(9-7)r5c7=r79c7-r79c8=7r1c8 => -9r1c8

 You are right. I had it right then let my head tell be different. It is strange how you think sometimes.   Thanks for the help.
