Can you explain to me what is meant by an XY chain? Once I get that figured out, maybe more complicated terminology will become clear.

The puzzle below is helpful for practicing the XY Chain technique. Posted recently on another thread, from the position shown the remainder of the puzzle can be solved using nothing but XY Chains.
