OK.

A change of pace but there's an interesting philosophical point with this one.
Code:

+-------+-------+-------+
| . . . | 7 2 . | 1 . 8 |
| . 6 . | 4 . 8 | . 7 . |
| . . . | . . 9 | . . . |
+-------+-------+-------+
| 4 7 . | . 9 . | . 6 . |
| 9 . . | 2 8 . | . . 5 |
| . 1 5 | . . 7 | . . . |
+-------+-------+-------+
| 1 . . | . . . | 2 . . |
| . 8 . | 1 . . | . 5 . |
| 6 . . | . . 7 | . . . |

Maybe starting point is this?

Code:

+-------+-------+-------+
| . . . | 7 2 . | 1 . 8 |
| . 6 . | 4 . 8 | . 7 . |
| . . . | . . 9 | . . . |

| 9 . . | 2 8 . | . . 5 |
| . 1 5 | . . 7 | . . . |
+-------+-------+-------+
| 1 . . | . . . | 2 . . |
| . 8 . | 1 . . | . 5 . |
| 6 . . | . 7 . | . . . |

If a=2, b=<34>, c=1, d=<89> but also e=<89> produces Unique Rectangle so r3c8=2 to solve

……and the other philosophical version of the same UR (how you look at it). I know you like UR’s Immp.

Using Tom’s grid:

You must have the <89> in a (r6c8) to prevent the deadly pattern taking shape beneath in d.

You can safely dispense with the remaining digits <234> in a and the puzzle is solved

...needless to say you don't have to go the UR route at all.....

Thanks for the puzzle Mogulmeister! I used my usual method - and I think I almost ran out of pencil lead on this one! Smile

Thanks for the puzzle Mogulmeister. I was finding some useful Swordfish patterns that helped me along on this one. Skyscrapers and various Wings could work as well, and a late UR (89) became visible.

cheers...immp
