Using the 23 pair in r1c5 and r6c9 means r6c5 <> 2 as then no 3's in r4

Starting with TomC's grid, I used the following chain:

(2=5)r5c4 - (5=3)r5c1 - r5c6 = r4c5 - (3=2)r1c5 => r2c4 <> 2; stte.

Well,

You know how I'll solve it. After basics:

Code:
+----------------+----------------+----------------+
| 8    5    4    | 6    23   7    | 239  239  1    |
| 1    9    7    | 23   4    8    | 6    23   5    |
| 6    3    2    | 1    9    5    | 7    4    8    |
+----------------+----------------+----------------+
| 7    2    9    | 8    36y  1    | 4    5    36x  |
| 35   4    1    | 25   7    36x  | 39   8    2-369|
| 35   6    8    | 4    25   9    | 1    7    2-3  |
+----------------+----------------+----------------+
| 2    7    5    | 39x  1    4    | 8    6    39y  |
| 4    18   36   | 59   58   36y  | 259  129  7    |
| 9    18   36   | 7   -3568 2    | 35   13   4    |
+----------------+----------------+----------------+

The only "interesting" digit is 3. (It has a pattern of unknowns that may result in single-digit eliminations via strong links.)

There are strong links on 3 in R4, R7, and C6, and we can label their ends x, y, x, ... around the cycle. Any cell that sees both an x and a y is not 3.

Actually, you only need to take out 3 in R6C9 to solve it.

This is officially called a Swordfish-thingy, perhaps a Mutant or a Franken-Swordfish. Wink
