One is tempted to use the 29 UR that's been there almost from the start.
This time, that UR is no shortcut to the solution.
For me, the move that cracked the puzzle was a single xy-wing. Hint: 24-45-25 with pivot r5c6, takes out 2 from r6c7) |

Somehow I solved it without any advanced techniques at all.
Must be my lucky day!

For me, it was the exact opposite: I overlooked a crucial basic move (3 in box 5 is confined to col 5) and spent like twenty minutes looking for a solution that was not there...
This is where something beyond basics is needed:
Code: |
+--------------------------+--------------------------+--------------------------+
| 5 8 13 | 34 9 7 | 26 46 124 |
| 234 7 23 | 6 1 34 | 9 5 8 |
| 14 6 9 | 5 2 8 | 7 3 14 |
+--------------------------+--------------------------+--------------------------+
| 8 2 357 | 1 357 9 | 36 46 45 |
| 39 49 6 | 248 358 45 | 1 7 25 |
| 137 14 1357 | 24 357 6 | 23 8 9 |
+--------------------------+--------------------------+--------------------------+
| 29 5 8 | 7 6 1 | 4 29 3 |
| 6 3 4 | 9 58 2 | 58 1 7 |
| 1279 19 127 | 38 4 35 | 58 29 6 |
+--------------------------+--------------------------+--------------------------+

The same xy-wing also takes out the <2> in r5c4, which is also sufficient to solve the puzzle.

Same here, the 29 UR and the XY to finish it off. |

Couldn't miss the UR. I was then hoping to find a stylish and elegant solution - but got stuck on the basics. Took me forever to find those naked 3's in Box 5 C5 - and the naked 4's in Box 6 R4. Finished with the xy.
How can one aspire to style and elegance when one cannot even recognise nakedness. |

I had the same problems---and you helped me to remove my blinders---or to see the numerals not wearing clothes.
The really weird thing is that I solved the puzzle once; later I decided to do it again to see if it was easier than I originally thought---and I could not remember how I solved it the first time, and I got totally stumped the second time! |

Hey - first time I did the same - saw the UR and knocked it off in no time at all. Except that I obviously erred. One has to wonder how many sudokus I have completed by lucky errors. |

a little late with this one. the draw/play method was definitely a challenge. I had to resort to susser after a good 90 mins of counting rows and columns just to make sure I got all eliminations.
the UR was evident early on, the box/line interactions is what killed me with this one.
mark me down for xy-wing removes 2 in r5c4 |
