If you let the HoDoKu program solve this puzzle, you get the following one-stepper: Code: | XY-Chain: 2 2- r2c8 -1- r2c1 -2- r8c1 -5- r8c9 -3- r3c9 -2- r7c9 -9- r7c4 -8- r7c2 -4- r5c2 -1- r3c2 -2 => r2c1,r3c79<>2 |
If you look closer, you will find a simpler, embedded solution!
One may wonder why this one was ignored..

A pure bi-value chain:
Code: | |------------|----------|----------------|
| 8 5 3 | 2 1 6 | 9 7 4 |
| 12 7 4 | 3 8 9 | 56 12 56 |
| 9 (12) 6 | 5 4 7 | 123 8 3-2 |
|------------|----------|----------------|
| 7 6 2 | 1 9 5 | 4 3 8 |
| 14 (14) 5 | 7 3 8 | 26 29 269 |
| 3 9 8 | 6 2 4 | 7 5 1 |
|------------|----------|----------------|
| 6 (48) 7 |(89) 5 3 | 12 1249 (29) |
| 25 23 9 | 4 7 1 | 8 6 35 |
| 45 348 1 | 89 6 2 | 35 49 7 |
|------------|----------|----------------| |
As your solution

Potential DP 48-89-49 in boxes 789. Either r7c8=12 or r9c2=3. The 3 proves r5c8=9 and in r7c8 the 12 pseudo cell is part of a 12 pair that sets r5c8<>2=9; r5c8=9. |
